Introducing the 3rd installment of the Saloon Salon!
RUST & NAIL
This particular Art Exhibit is comprised of two local artists. Ben Allanoff and John Henson. Together they embody the desert in a special way and force us to look at the world from a very unique perspective. Isn’t that one of the many purposes of art, to change how we look at the world?
Ben is responsible for the rust. He builds prints and collages from the natural relationship of water and metal. These elements are captured in design in deeply meaningful ways.
John is the wielder of the mighty hammer. Thousands of slivering shards of metal beaten into thick wood panels forming images of recognizable characters and scenes. Up close it may just look like a bunch of nails in a piece of wood but when you take a step back you can truly get the bigger picture. Literally.
We are very pleased to have their art reside here with us at Spaghetti Western starting April 20th through June 18th. We will hold the Opening Reception on Sunday, April 23rd, from 4-6 pm.
Rust & Nail
(a complimentary poem by Nigel Roman)
Time takes its toll
Countless days measured
Hands turn to leather under the desert sun
A world built from the ground up
Every railroad
Every stud in every wall
Everyday the earth shivers, blows, shakes…weeps
What was once a shimmering sheet of metal
Is now an eroded symbol of protection
What was once a strong and worthy spike
Is now a set of tearing eyes in the fence trying to keep it together
We give thanks to the material
And we put confidence in them to never fail
And for all days that continue to come and go
We entrust our lives in the rust and nail
